4u Style for WordPress
This theme is fourth theme, it’s building on Hemingway. Click this picture, you can get 4u demo.
Download: 4u.tar.gz.
Installing:
- Upload the 4u directory and its content to your wp-content/themes/ directory.
- Visit the Presentation page once to activate this theme.
- If you want to change the theme options,
you can visit the Presentation -> Hemingway Option page. - How can I add new block?
Create your code file (Examples: examples.php) in the blocks directory, then visit the Hemingway Option page to add your block.
Why don’t menu display correctly:
- Page name isn’t too long.
- Add page is’t too many.
Upgrade: If you have ever used any other Hemingway theme you need to uninstall the options first and then set them again or things don’t work as they should.

I love the theme and plan on using it…but there’s a bug in the javascript for the sliding comment shelf, it causes IE6 (works fine in IE7 and Firefox though) to crash after you click the tab. I’d fix it but I know nothing on JS.

Thank you for your comment. The javascript work fine in my IE6, but one of my firend found the same error. I don’t know what is the reason. Maybe there are some wrong in your IE6. The bug wasn’t found in IE6 for most people.

I thought it might be a install specific bug too, so I tried it on my work PC but got the same result. It says it’s an error in IE’s mshtml.dll module, which through Google I have found that dll to cause crashes for a variety of reasons. The most common resolution I found is to reinstall IE6 or update to IE7. I’ll try to reinstall IE6 when I get back home to see if it solves the problem.

Great theme! Very graphical and in same time very-very clean, and so comfortable! I could not imaginate that some time it will be so easy to manage my blocks on sidebar as I want!

The default gravatar icon in comments.php is hardcoded to Utombox.com, you may want to change that as well.

When you click and go to a category it gets a weirdpage, it shows a calendar and other things but not the archives of the category.

I’ve never used Hemingway but I have used widgets, so I’d be very grateful if you can help me understand how the blocks in the bottom bar behave compared to widgets, which they look like. Here are my three questions:
1. instead of like widgts, you can’t click on the titles to set options. So how can I change the text inside or configure what’s in those blocks?
2. Can I also install the widgets plugin and use that for the bottom bar or otherbar?
3. Can I add new types of blocks like you can add new types of widgets just by placing the widget file in the widgets folder?
Thanks for any help. I know I must be missing something obvious…

I agree with everyone - awesome theme more than a theme a mini CMS which is what I have been looking for.
Like Valerie I too am a bit confused about using the additional blocks
I tried to rename them on the Hem Options page but don’t understand how to add content to them I just ended up with a blank spot on my sidebar: “Your title here” Your content here”
Some pointers on how to use these blocks would be great because they are the real innovation here.

Is it me, or does positioning of some blocks and elements seem to be incorrect under firefox, where they work under IE6 just fine? Seems to be when your not logged on and visit a page that allows comments the “You must be logged in to post a comment.” is positioned wrong and has a knock on effect on the three bottom elements. A similar thing happens with the calendar in the archives.

hi , just dowloaded the hemingway mod update. However i ran in to many problems.A couple of questions?
1. why do i get chinese writing come up (in my browser) when i switch pages?
3. comment on post, the ancillary and comment post page merge, so terrible this.
3. footer floats! why?

I learned a lot about Wordpress just by using and modifying this great theme which I like a lot.
I have been trying to customize it to fit more content, but I am all new to CSS and Wordpress and I am still learning a lot…
What I’m trying to to is add another sidebar for the single.php file.
so instead of this:

Hi
There is a bug in search.php which always displays “There were no results, better luck next time.” even though there *are* rows returned.
To fix this, I added these 2 lines after “if (have_posts()) :”
$mySearch =& new WP_Query(”s=$s & showposts=-1″);
$results = $mySearch->post_count;
FYI.

i like the theme a lot. I increased the font size and now the guidelines for the comments are below the comment box. How can i get them back on the right side of the comment box?

I have one question. Can you point me some clue how to take out the sidebar?
I am using WPG2 with Gallery2 program to show my photograph.
When I call link wp-gallery2.php to my gallery album, the sidebar makes the Gallery Theme in strange looking. The following are the WPG2 website says. However, I had hard time to find out where to call get_sidebar function in 4U

Please check your Wordpress Theme Footer (footer.php) or Wordpress Theme Header (header.php) for the following statement.
If this statement is present please follow these steps.
Copy the footer.php to wpg2footer.php (or Copy the header.php to wpg2header.php depending on what file it is in)
Edit wpg2footer.php (or wpg2header.php) and remove

This is a great theme, but I’m having trouble getting it work with Blogroll. Wherever I put it, I get an error: “WordPress database error: [Unknown column 'cat_1' in 'order clause']
SELECT * FROM wp_categories WHERE cat_ID > 0 AND link_count > 0 ORDER BY cat_1 ASC” Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi, I was getting the same Blogroll error after I upgraded to WP 2.12:
“WordPress database error: [Unknown column ‘cat_1′ in ‘order clause’]

I think the get_links_list function that the blogroll uses has changed in WordPress 2.1x, so I just found the blogroll.php file in the ‘blocks’ directory of the Hemingway theme, then edited it. I changed:

to:
and the blogroll is working again.

Oh crap, the php got filtered out when I posted! Basically, in the blogroll.php file, change:
get_links_list(1, ‘–h2–’, ‘–/h2–’);
(note, I have replaced the angle brackets with two dashes ‘–’ above to stop this blog filtering out the HTML)
to just:
get_links_list();
